By learning both Japanese and Economics, you will not only have a competitive advantage over your peers, you may also gain a financial advantage as well.
Economics students who are not quantitatively inclined may find many possible combinations within both the arts degree and the business degree to their advantage. Combinations that may lead to a career in the international economics area include: economics and Japanese, economics and Asian Studies, economics and European Studies.
Other combinations may include:economics and communication (which may lead to economic journalism), economics and leisure studies (tourism management), economics and marketing (strategic marketing), economics and human resource management (strategic management), economics and informatics (Treasuries, stock markets, Australian Bureau of Statistics, banks).
Students who complete a major in economics (in conjunction with our Sydney campus) and a Diploma in Education will qualify for teaching.
Please note: Business students cannot major in economics. However, they can combine an economics minor with any one of the four majors offered currently in order to enhance their job prospect. An economics minor consists of four economics units. They are Microeconomics I, Microeconomics II, Macroeconomics I, and Macroeconomics II. Thus the combinations available to business students are:
| Marketing + economics minor | = a well paid marketing position |
| Human Resource Management + economics minor | = strategic management |
| International Business + economics minor | = wider career choices |
| Informatics + economics minor | = jobs in a well paid industry |
Arts students can choose from both the above and the following combinations. (These combinations are not available to business students.)
| Economics + Japanese | = International economists |
| Economics + Asian Studies | = International economists |
| Economics + European Studies | = International economists |
| Economics + Leisure Studies | = Tourism management |
| Economics + Communication | = Financial journalism | Economics + Diploma in Education | = Qualified Teacher |
