About Me

BackSamurai dressed in armour

Have you heard of the saying that a cat has nine lives? Well, in a different manner, I am lucky for I have three lives. I have a Chinese identity, a Japanese identity, and an Australian identity. You have probably gathered that I read, speak and write fluently in three languages.

I am conversant in many business disciplines, and my industry experience includes management consulting with KPMG Peat Marwick (a major international accounting firm), and general management with a Japanese company. Economics is my passion. The reason why I have chosen to become an academic? I like the flexible lifestyle it offers me. However, that does not mean you can never find me. Nowadays, the information super highway allows you to reach me by phone, fax, or email. I have provided my timetable for this semester to find out where I am during the week. Please do not hesitate to contact me, by either dropping in at my office, or keeping in touch electronically.

In case you want to know what my research interests are, I am working on a comparison of Toyota vs. Nissan (microeconomics), the Japanese monetary policy with a historical perspective (macroeconomics), and more generally, the economics of homestays (microeconomics).

Teaching is something that I enjoy doing. I have won two awards for innovative and excellent teaching, one nationally, and the other one within ACU. I have a close working relationship with some universities in Japan, and I am a regular guest lecturer and visiting research scholar at their invitation.

I have provided a synopsis of the following research papers online (including a Japanese translation!):
