Research, Honours and Postgraduate Students

Honours Theses must be submitted by 14:00 (2pm) on Monday 20/10/2003

Students interested in undertaking a research degree should contact the Research Services and academic staff who are working in an appropriate area.

Honours

The Honours program allows students to build on the knowledge gained in one of the majors completed in their Bachelor of Arts course or in Environmental Science, and to develop research techniques appropriate to their chosen discipline.
The program combines instruction in research methods and the presentation of a research thesis in a specialist field, with course work at an advanced level, and the opportunity for further field experience if appropriate.

Who is eligible to apply?

In order to qualify for admission to the Honours course a student shall normally:

In exceptional circumstances an individual not fulfilling these requirements may apply to the School Committee through the relevant Head of School for entry into a particular Honours course.

Calculating the GPA

To calculate your GPA you need all your results. Each HD is worth 7 grade points, DI 6, CR 5, PA 4, PC 3, NN 1, WN 1. Ignore completely units with grades of PS or WW. Add up the grade points and divide by the number of units you have included (ignoring units with grades of PS or WW), the answer is your GPA. If your GPA is 5.0 or greater then you have at least a credit average.
Students in the BT/BA should only include units from the first two years of their course together with the 4 third year units from their major.

Important Note

A student can only be accepted into the Honours program if the School has been allocated enough places and if a suitable supervisor can be provided. Students will be ranked in GPA order if there are insufficient places.
