QIER holds two main events each year, the QIER Annual Dinner, and a Research
Day.
The QIER Annual Dinner, formerly known as the J.A. Robinson Memorial Lecture
commemorates the contribution of James Alexander Robinson, BA, DSO (1888-1971)
to the Queensland Institute for Educational Research, the Australian Council
for Educational Research and the educational community. The first J.A.
Robinson Memorial Lecture was given by Professor G.W. Bassett in 1972.
The lecture is usually held in conjunction with a dinner. The 2001 Dinner
was held on the 23rd May. Dr Lawrence Ingvarson, ACER, was the guest speaker.
The title of his presentation was Strengthening the Teaching Profession:
Current developments and their implications for research. Professor
Bob Lingard was the guest speaker at the 2002 dinner on May 20th. QIER holds a Research Day to provide the opportunity for researchers,
particularly those beginning their career, to have the opportunity to display
their work and interact with fellow researchers. The 2002 Research Day was held at The Bardon Centre, Simpsons Road Bardon on November 2nd.
