Guide to Oral Presentations

Nose

Sniff out your audience.

  • Who you are speaking to matters!
  • Who are they?
  • What are they likely to already know about the subject matter?
  • What do they need to know?
  • What are their attitudes and expectations?
  • What are the needs and expectations of your lecturer?
  • What is the best way to develop a rapport with them?

Don’t think about yourself, think about how you can enlighten, educate and entertain your audience – this will make your presentation more effective and also help to calm your nerves. Believe that you have something to offer them.
