Director of the Centre

Professor Judith Chapman AM is Professor of Education and Director of the Centre for Lifelong Learning. Judith began her career as a teacher in secondary schools in Australia and Europe before undertaking post-graduate studies in the USA. She was formerly Dean of the Faculty of Education at ACU (1998-2003), Professor of Education and Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) of the combined Faculties of Economics, Commerce, Education and Law at The University of Western Australia (1993-1998), and Director of the Centre for School Decision Making and Management at Monash University (1979-1993). She has undertaken extensive research and consultancy for international and national authorities, including OECD, UNESCO, the World Bank, I.D.P., and the Australian Commonwealth Government. Her publications include: Values Education and Lifelong Learning (Dordrecht: Springer 2007); Lifelong Learning, Participation and Equity (Dordrecht: Springer 2006); The International Handbook on Lifelong Learning (Dordrecht: Kluwer 2001) and The School, Community and Lifelong Learning (London: Cassell 1997).Judith is a Fellow of the Australian College of Education; a Fellow of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders; and a Fellow of the Western Australian Institute of Educational Administration (of which she was formerly Patron). In 1999 she became a Member of the Order of Australia for services to higher education as a teacher and researcher. In the same year she was awarded a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship at the Rockefeller International Study Center, Bellagio, Italy to undertake work on educational reform. In 2007 she has been elected a Visiting Fellow at St Edmund's College Cambridge

Dr Patricia Cartwright
Dr Patricia Cartwright, Senior Lecturer in Literacy Education, has a particular interest in lifelong learning, critical literacy and pedagogy, values education and tertiary teaching and learning. She has had wide experience in primary, secondary and tertiary education, and has worked in University staff development. She has undertaken much research and consultancy in the areas of literacy and lifelong learning for undergraduate and postgraduate students and is currently working with several secondary and primary schools on a range of literacy learning strategies, with a specific focus on the Middle Years of Schooling. She has published in the areas of critical literacy, writing pedagogy, action research, teacher narrative, and tertiary teaching and learning.

Dr Michael T Buchanan
Dr Michael T Buchanan MACE is a Lecturer in Education and Curriculum Studies at ACU National. Michael began his career in education in secondary schools and gained experience in educational leadership and administration. He has undertaken post-graduate studies in learning and teaching, educational leadership, religious education and higher education. He has published both nationally and internationally in areas such as curriculum, leadership, change management, religious education and school improvement.

Associate Professor Sue McNamara
Associate Professor Sue McNamara is Head of the School of Education (Victoria) at Australian Catholic University. Sue's areas of teaching and research are Learning Design, Imagination, Creativity and Technology; Learning Environments, Platforms and Approaches to Learning; Complexity in Organisational Change and Educational Development.
