More about TLC

Commencing undergraduate students from ACU Ballarat are provided with a semester-long transition program to enhance their engagement with their peers, staff and their learning. The Tertiary Learning Communities (TLC) program is offered one hour each week, to provide ongoing skills and opportunities to build relationships with staff and students around academic and social content. The significance of the TLC program lies in its inclusive nature to provide skills and support for all students in a timely manner and not just those who present for assistance.

The TLC sessions are aligned to a first year core unit and scheduled before the core unit to assist student participation. The program doesn’t belong to a particular school or course but acts as a platform for staff to work collaboratively and with shared purpose, to create supportive environments for students.

At the completion of the TLC program students will have:

    1. Participated in timely activities which develop links with their learning and social needs.
    2. Established relationships with a variety of staff and students.
    3. Experienced a sense of belonging to the tertiary community through academic, social and community engagement opportunities.
    4. Developed a personal understanding of the importance of supportive and caring environments.
    5. Provided feedback regarding the TLC process and content.
    6. Celebrated an acknowledgement of their personal achievements (academic and social) and tertiary readiness.
