Opinion Board

This is a response to your www site on Aging Research and Education.

Please forgive me if you find the following a little difficult to take on board, in as much as I am aware that various denominations do in some respects more than others. However I do so for the simple reason you have asked for feedback and I assume you mean real feedback as opposed to something that might be just what one might wish to hear, though this could be stated an assumption on my part already...

I am deeply concerned about aspects of research that to date are non existent concerning humanity and that is in the area of aged research pertaining to those whom have been born either genetically and physiologically intersexed and or those who are androgynous whether physically and or psychologically so. This is a very difficult area for the various Christian faiths to acknowledge publicly or even privately which is unfortunate as these people do in fact populate the world in far greater numbers than most tend or are even led to believe.

Failure to acknowledge this sizeable group within Australia let alone elsewhere could be quite catastrophic in some respects, particularly when one considers there could be in excess of 200,000 people Australia wide who may fit this descriptive. It is a part of the duty of care that has to date barely been given a mention let alone any concerted effort to address.

I wonder what your views are in relation to this with particular respect for you and your university's interest in the matter of ageing research and education? I have noticed that your Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor John C. Coll was in support of your research studies. Therefore I assume that this research is being conducted with an inclusive mind towards the various issues and concerns that arise. I wonder whether you and colleagues have thought about this aspect concerning humanity in the areas of health, well being and overall education? With good wishes from Chris

Dear Chris, Ageing research and education at ACU National is not gender-specific nor is it exclusive. I would be happy to take on board your perspective on ageing research "pertaining to those who have been born either genetically and physiologically intersexed and or those who are androgynous whether physically and or psychologically". Please send me a short paper for consideration. Ed/-
