Ageing Research at ACU National (ACU)

Ageing is life-long. Individuals begin the ageing process at the moment of birth, and go through life accumulating experiences that may positively or negatively affect their capabilities and wellbeing.

As a Catholic university, ageing research at ACU has reached significant crossroads. Leadership in related fields of gerontology advocate to building a society for all ages . The current Research Agenda (Strategic Plan, 2004-2008) recognises the limitations of the present social and economic climate with reduced resources for conducting research. The existing body of knowledge and expertise — assembled over the past decade —consolidates themes that best serve the interests of the larger community and the nation.

In addition to key research priorities, the theme of ageing and quality of living underpins the current Research Agenda. Research inquiry identifies priority gaps with “state of the art” international knowledge and information. Researchers share a commitment to social justice and the promotion of quality of life; and research in scientific gerontology and healthy ageing make a unique contribution to policies in those areas.
