INTRODUCTION
The Singleton Convent Collection is an inventory of some 7,500 books, journals, periodicals, pamphlets, sheet music, records and audio material that reflects
the history of the Sisters of Mercy, a group of Catholic apostolic religious women who came to Singleton, Australia in 1875. This collection of resources mirrors
the many changes that have taken place in the history of apostolic religious life and the Catholic Church in Australia.
The collection serves two main functions in that:
- It is a catalogued collection of material reflecting the religious and cultural history of Congregational life to date and is therefore an archival collection - an historical record.
- It is a valuable resource for the Congregation, Church and wider secular community.
The library is a reference collection for the use of Sisters within the congregation, historical and sociological researchers, and people interested in pursuing their faith and spirituality. The Collection has been divided up into various sections scattered across the Singleton Convent complex in presses / book cases that have traditionally housed congregational resources. Rather than aiming to be a “borrowing” library, it is essentially an historical collection so as to accurately record the resources that have assisted in the formation of sisters.
With thanks to the Cathlink team, the whole Singleton Collection is now fully searchable via the Internet by author, subject, title, location and keyword. For further information please contact the Sisters of Mercy during business hours by phoning the Singleton Convent on (02) 6572 2398 or email consing@hunterlink.net.au.

Sister Monica Sinclair
