List of compatible databases

EndNote works with online catalogues and databases in a variety of ways to assist you in downloading references into your EndNote Library.

EndNote filters allow you to import text files saved or downloaded from a bibliographic database into your EndNote library. The "filter" transfers data from the text file into the relevant reference type fields.

The Direct Export option, made available by a number of database providers, allows you to export records from the database directly into EndNote without the need for a filter.

The table below lists ACU National's subscription databases. The columns to the right of the database name indicate which import options are for that database. Click on the link in the appropriate column for more information on downloading filters, using filters, or performing Direct Exports.

* This database contains records that EndNote is not designed to store (e.g. details of entire journals). We recommend that you do not enter or import these records into EndNote.

Some of the databases ACU subscribes to are derived from a single source of information rather than many sources. In these cases, the references you enter into EndNote will be very similar. You can follow the instructions below to help you input the correct data.

Brill Online:

See the Citation box at the foot of each article page.

Cambridge Companions Online:

See the entry "How to cite" at the foot of each article page

Digital Library of Classic Protestant Texts, Digital Library of the Catholic Reformation:

See the Bibliographic Record link at the top of each page of text.

Education Research Theses:

On the results screen, click on Full Record for the thesis you want to cite. Enter the data that is displayed into EndNote using the reference type Thesis.

Encyclopaedia Britannica:

See "To cite this page" at the foot of each article page.

Grove Art Online:

1. Run EndNote and load the library file you want to add the reference to.
2. Click on the New Reference icon. A new window will open.
3. Select Electronic Source from the Reference Type box.
4. Enter the following information in each field:

   Author	The name given in the bottom right corner of the page, if any.
   Title	The text in green near the top of the page.
   Series Title	Grove Art Online
   Publisher	Oxford University Press
   Access Year	The year you accessed the database.
   Access Date	The date you accessed the database.
   Last Update Date	The date given in the top right corner of the page, if any.
   URL	http://www.groveart.com/

Grove Music Online:

1. Run EndNote and load the library file you want to add the reference to.
2. Click on the New Reference icon. A new window will open.
3. Select Electronic Source from the Reference Type box.
4. Enter the following information in each field:

   Author	The name given in the bottom right corner of the page, if any.
   Title	The text in blue near the top of the page.
   Series Editor	Macy, L.
   Series Title	Grove Music Online
   Publisher	Oxford University Press
   Access Year	The year you accessed the database.
   Access Date	The date you accessed the database.
   Last Update Date	The date given in the top right corner of the page, if any.
   URL	http://www.grovemusic.com/

Knovel K-Essentials:

1. Run EndNote and load the library file you want to add the reference to.
2. Click on the New Reference icon. A new window will open.
3. Select Electronic Book from the Reference Type box.
4. On the K-Essentials website, click on Title Details for the book you want to cite.
5. A pop-up window will open. Enter the details from this into EndNote.

NetLibrary:

The publication details for each book are given at the beginning of the book's table of contents. Use the Reference Type Electronic Book.

Oxford English Dictionary Online:

Oxford Reference:

See "How to cite this entry" at the foot of the page you want to cite.

Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy:

See the entry "How to cite this article" at the foot of each article page.

Safari Books Online:

The publication details for each book are given at the beginning of the book's table of contents. Use the Reference Type Electronic Book.

Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy:

See http://plato.stanford.edu/cite.html for more information.

Works of St. Augustine:

See the title page headed "The Works of Saint Augustine: A Translation for the 21st Century" and find the volume you want to cite from on the list.
