EZproxy FAQ - Cookie Settings

ACU EZproxy Cookie or Firewall page screenshot

If you see the above page, it means that your account is valid and that you have logged into the system successfully, unfortunately your browser is not setup correctly to access our resources. EZProxy sends a "cookie" to your browser to indicate that you have been validated by the proxy and are authorized to access the restricted databases or other resources. Your browser (Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, Firefox) needs to be set to accept cookies. Cookies are data passed between Web browsers and servers. In order for your Web browser to communicate with the ACU Library EZProxy server, the cookies option must be enabled. This cookie cannot be used for any other purpose, and will be deleted when you close your browser.

I see the Cookie Settings page above, how do I change my cookie settings?

Both EZproxy and certain databases send "cookies" to your browser when you connect to them to verify, during your session, that you are an authorized user. If your browser reports an error receiving a "cookie" it may be currently set to disallow cookies. EZproxy requires that your browser is set to Enable Cookies. Please follow the instructions on the page to change your security settings to an appropriate level.

For instructions on the most commonly used browser versions, go to: http://www.google.com/cookies.html

I have changed my cookie settings to ‘medium’ setting?, but I still see the Cookie Settings page above

  • For personal firewall software, such as Norton Security, make sure that cookie blocking is set to "none" and that the browser privacy box is unchecked. You can always go back and recheck these later.

  • Within the firewall software, please allow the ACU site – please refer to your firewall’s documentation or website for details on how to do this

  • Try setting the cookies option to ‘low’ – some installed firewalls will block the connection even at medium. Known software that may require the ‘low’ setting:

    • Nortons Virus Checker
    • ZoneAlarm

  • Are you using a computer at your workplace? Please refer to the accessing from workplace section
